What is an LED? A LED is a light emitting diode that can produce the same visible, ultraviolet and infrared wavelengths as the sun. This is what Wikipedia has to say about LED technology. Link.

What is PAR? Photosynthetically Active Radiation. This measurement is in units of micromoles per metre squared per second (µmol/m2/s). Also called Photosynthetic Photon Flux Density (PPFD). This method is the most scientific way to measure light.

What are Lumens? Lumens are a measurement of how bright a light is perceived by the human eye. Which is useless for plants. It doesn’t matter how bright your light is 80% or more light emitted by the sun or from HPS goes unused by the plants.

What is LUX? LUX also measures the intensity of light; it also takes into account the total area covered by a given number of lumens. Both LUX and Lumen measure the intensity of light to the human eye. Plants require wavelengths of light beyond what humans can perceive.

Can more than one unit be linked together? Yes

Is it true you have to keep the light at set distances always above the plants?Yes

Is it true I will need less water? Yes, with the elimination of all the heat produced by HID the plants don’t transpire as much water. Remember, over-watering your plants will harm them.

Is this new green technology? Yes, this technology is 100% recyclable contains no mercury unlike compact fluorescent lights (CFLs) and does not require bulb replacements. CFLs are subject to the requirements of the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) regulations. The manufacturers LED products meet the ROHS directive. With the Phase-out of incandescent light bulbs the future is LED.

Is it true that this new technology is eligible for government grants? If you a business using these products in a commercial environment you would qualify for the Enhanced Carbon Emissions grant for reducing your carbon footprint as a business. You could also qualify for a DEFRA grant for upgrading with new green technology. Schools can apply to The Royal Society for Partnerships grants.

WARNING! Any company that measures LED GROW LIGHTS in LUX and LUMENS is using a completely useless measurement for plants. µmol is the only measurement of which applies to plants. LUX has to do with foot-candles, similar to lumens, which dictates visible light to humans rather than plants. These products are measured in PAR, as this is the most scientific way of determining a light’s ability to drive photosynthesis.

Do I need to worry about counterfeit products? Absolutely, you need to be very aware there are many manufacturers selling LED Grow lights. Beware of cheap counterfeit copies or replicas that claim they are genuine. British Trading Standards is taking a tough stance due to the number of complaints of high failure rates. Check to see if the products you are interested to purchase are genuine, comply with EU legislation and carry the CE & ROHS certification.

What if the light stops working or the unit breaks down? As these LED products are consumer serviceable with their modular design you simply clip out the faulty light modules and return it to Metatron Technologies Limited and we will replace the faulty modules. Is the product upgrade-able? Yes, these product were built for modular purposes. This allows you to keep up-to-date with the latest technology. You simply upgrade.
